Structure Of Earth
STRUCTURE OF THE EARTH
Our earth is round like an orange. If we go the open ground and look everywhere we feel that it is flat. We feel this because of its very huge size. When we see the moon from the earth, it looks round. Similarly, if we see the earth from the moon, earth also looks round. For example, when a small insects moves on a big ball it cannot see the all the parts of the ball. Similarly, we can see only a small portion of the earth. We cannot see all parts of the earth.
Internal Structure of the Earth
The internal structure of the earth is made of three layers. They are:
a)Crust
b)Mantle
c)Core
a)Crust
The outer layer of the earth's surface on which we live is called crust. It is compose of land, seas, Earthoceans, mountains and hills. This layer is covered by air and different gases like oxygen, nitrogen, etc which is called atmosphere. It helps all the living beings to breathe. The average thickness if this layer is about 35 km.
Crust or outer layer of the earth
b)Mantle
A very thick layer lies beneath the crust of the earth. This thick layer is called mantle. It extends up to 3900 km in depth. Due tovery hot temperature, the rocks of this layer are very soft. The average temperature is about 2200 degree Celsius.
c)Core
It is the innermost part of the earth. It is about 3447 km thick. It is extremely hot. It is made up of metals such as nickel and iron.
The structure of the earth can be compared with a fruit Lychee. It also has three layers like earth. The outer part is like a crust, the middle part is like a mantle and the inner part or seed is like the the core. Similarly, egg also can be taken as an example of the structure of the earth.
